Plumbing Noises and How to Interpret Them

A plumbing system could create numerous noises – yet it shouldn’t. Each noise tells you something as to what is asking out for correction. You need to simply interpret the sound in order to apply the cure. In order to detect noisy plumbing, you have to determine first if the unwanted sounds occur on the system’s inlet side-in other words, when water is turned on-or on the drain side. Noises on the inlet side have varied causes: excessive water pressure, worn valve and faucet parts, improperly connected pumps or other appliances, incorrectly placed pipe fasteners, and plumbing runs containing a lot of tight bends or any other restrictions. Noises on the drain side typically come from poor location or, as with some inlet side noise, a layout containing limited bends. However, to understand each noise you hear, listed below are the 3 common sounds that you might hear and figure out the causes of it.

A.    Rattling Pipe Sound
This shaking rattling sound which takes place when shutting off a faucet is normally due to waves of water pressure and is a challenge that comes about more in older homes than newer ones. This particular sound could also come about when water rapidly enters a pipe that doesn’t flow freely, perhaps because of a change in direction in the piping just like an elbow connection or a “T” joint. In situations where the cause is water pressure waves, air chambers and shock absorption fittings are generally a fix.

B.    Hissing Sounds
A hissing sound is one of the more usual noises a person will encounter in their residence. This will happen sometimes when you turn on a faucet. The reason for this noise is usually a water pressure which is too high. The answer would be to use a valve which will reduce the water pressure and be freed of this noise.

C.    Screeching
One other issue which you may encounter could be a sharp screech as you open a faucet. The screech is brief and will usually stop once the faucet is totally open. In such a case, the typical suspect is a bad component in the faucet. You can attempt to fix the faucet but a replacement is usually a better solution, particularly if you have to pay to get this done. Plumbers have a great deal of expenses and have to charge for their time, so it is probably less expensive to replace than pay to have your current faucet repaired. Plus, would not a new faucet merely appear better anyway?

There are numerous noises which could emanate out of your plumbing system. These are 3 common ones yet there are numerous more and determined by where the noise is coming from and the kind of noise, as they can signal an issue or a simple repair. If you aren’t certain of what the cause is, a professional should be contacted. You won’t want to take a risk with your plumbing for the reason that impact of a busted pipe on your home and the resulting cleanup effort may be significant.

How To Balance An Awkwardly Placed Window

“Of course, we can’t escape the fact the no matter how our plan is, there will always be glitches and minor issues that wee need to face. But fortunately, we also have so many ways to address them like for an example this awkward bedroom window.”

One of my favorite house qualities is a room full of windows that let in lots of natural light—it can literally brighten your day. In reality, most homes or apartments have a mixture of rooms where some are brighter with more light and some are, well, not so bright. Our main living rooms in our new house have big windows that look out into the front and back yards, but the bedrooms have much smaller windows, and to be honest, they aren’t exactly my favorite feature. Not only are they small and high, some of them are kind of awkwardly placed on walls so you aren’t totally sure where to place furniture in the room. Our master bedroom has doors to the closets, bathroom and hallway, so there’s kind of only one wall option for the bed to be against. Once we center it on the wall so there’s enough room to walk around on each side, the window is pretty far to the right. So it creates a bit of an off-balance look that’s bugged me since we moved in. So, what do you do when you have an awkward window placement?

Good soloution to balance an awkward window (click through for more) You can see the window on the right and how it makes the left side feel really bare comparatively. The key is to fill that corresponding mirrored area (where the dashed lines are) with something so that, instead of seeing one off-center window, your eye will read the whole thing as one unit that hangs above the bed. And what can you do in that area? Lots of things! You can do several rows of separate open shelves, a small gallery wall, rows of hanging plants…anything that will fill that dashed line area and create the feel of one cohesive unit.

Since the window has some pretty thick white trim, I thought I would build a box shelf the same size as the window and paint it white so it would match the white trim. Also, with the busy wallpaper, it seemed better to build the box shelf instead of having open shelving or plants hanging from the wall since the back of the box shelf would create a solid area and the shelf items would visually stand out better.

Good soloution to balance an awkward window (click through for more) I first had the local home improvement store cut a piece of 1/4″ thick plywood to the same dimensions as the window. I also chose a few boards that were 1/2″ thick and 5.5″ wide to be the sides of the box shelf. I could have asked the workers at the store to cut those down to size as well and built the box with straight cut sides, but I wanted to try the 45° cutting option on my miter saw at home. If you have them do straight cuts at the store, just cut the two side pieces to the exact height of the box and then cut the top, middle and bottom width pieces to be the total width minus the width of the two side boards on either end. So, if your box is 20″ high, 30″ wide, and your boards are 1/2″ thick, then cut the two sides pieces to be 20″ and your top, middle and bottom pieces would be 29″ (30″ minus the two 1/2″ wide side pieces that will fit on either end).

Since I was trying the 45° angle on my saw, I made the longest edge of each angled piece to be either the exact height or width of the box and then …

Indicators for Window Replacement

Photo from

The posting below is a guide to help you determine whether your window already needs replacement.

•    Use single pane glass

Before, most homes only install single pane windows. And it is likely to be that your home still has it. Single pane glass windows imply that your HVAC system must work double time to deliver heat or cold to your house. Today, the standard is double pane so when you still have got the single pane at your house, you need to now consider replacing it.

•    Windows are rotting or falling apart

The looks of your windows are also significant and should not be ignored. When you notice rotten windows in your own home, don’t disregard as it might result in mildew and mold growth which is risky on your family. One more visible indication is that cracking of paint. This can be a result of moisture traveling through poorly sealed windows and back out to the outside. In addition, in old homes, exposure to UV rays and climate extremes could cause exterior structures to expand and contract, causing paint to peel.

•    Water/Air leaks in through the window

As time passes, windows degrade that make gaps that create water and air to leak. The remedy for leaking windows is appropriate insulation, and the simplest way to ensure that is not to just breakdown. When it’s not resolved promptly, you will find yourself shelling out a large amount for your heating or air conditioning units. This may also give you danger in the household because this is also the reason behind mildew and mold issues.

•    Won’t open and close properly

Great and secure home windows would open and close appropriately. Windows that must be sustained using a stick or any other object to keep open means they do not fit flawlessly and won’t be as effective as it must be. Not just that it’s a hassle, in addition it has safety and security potential risks to your family. Windows that happen to be painted or swelled shut must also be considered replacement candidates.

•    Double pane windows are foggy

If you have double- or triple-paned windows and you observe fog or condensation in the glass, you may have to replace the entire window. Fog or condensation in between the glass panels generally implies seal failure. And when you have seal failure, there’s not much of a layer between indoor and outdoor air. One other indicator that there’s seal failure takes place when you see calcium build up left by condensation, even if the condensation itself is not visible.

•    High energy bills

Dysfunctional windows are also the reason behind skyrocketing power bills at home. Old single-pane windows are specifically responsible due to very poor insulation of a single pane of glass. To end this energy loss, you will need to get replacement windows such as double or triple pane thermal windows. Energy efficient windows may be a costly expenditure in the beginning however it can pay you off over time.
•    You’re doing constant repairs

In the event that you’re keeping yourself from spending and need to save, then probably you aren’t thinking about window replacement at the moment. When you are only settling for repairs like repaints, caulking and many more, thinking that you can save more, then it may very well be right at first. But if you are performing it more regularly, then I believe you’re not acknowledging the major problem. The cost of repairs may be more costly in the long run than just replacing the entire window.

Eclair – Yummy!

You can visit them at 190 Clemenceau Avenue which is Singapore Shopping centre.

For sweet tooth eaters like me, below is the link to the newspaper article i saw:

Who would have thought that the humble eclair once available in less than a handful of flavours – more often than not in chocolate, coffee and vanilla – would go on to inspire a global revolution of sorts? One can credit French pastry chef Christophe Adam. Credits: Why eclairs are all the rage in Singapore
